Just like driving through heavy traffic, sooner or later we all come across all kinds of obstacles in our lives – money issues, relationships, your job, any kind of conflict, or sometimes ill health.

We want many things in life, but sometimes – most of the time – we have to overcome a few challenges before we can celebrate success.

A much better way than rather give up and having negative feelings is to figure out a way you can beat the odds and make those “obstacles” part of your success story – after all, regardless of how big the obstacle is, it just makes you stronger and makes victory that much sweeter!

Swerving Around Obstacles to Succeed

Every human being on earth would be rich, healthy, happy and totally successful if they just didn’t have those concrete walls shooting up instantly and unexpectedly, taking the wind out of their sails.

The best life success stories all start with some kind of obstruction or unexpected challenge. Or it might be something that you have tried that didn’t work out, or red tape or other issues that stopped you in your tracks.

The real truth is that there will always be something standing in your way; something you have to face and overcome first.

The good news is – that is why the universe has given us the power to choose: we have the choice of believing we can overcome whatever the problem is, or we can decide to let it go – to throw in the towel; to jump ship…

Everything always starts with making a choice.

Set Goals With The Intent To Reach Them And Overcome All Obstacles

It doesn’t help to set impossible goals. A goal is something that must be achievable, how difficult it may be. So set an attainable, realistic goal – something you know is possible, but also something you know you will be able to achieve, even if you have to jump high to get over the obstacles trying to block your way to success.

Choosing clever goals is probably the easiest and definitely the best way to get over any obstacle or around any challenge as a properly set goal it gives you a dedicated timeline to help you along regardless of anything in your path.

This will allow you to make constant progress toward your goal, even if it is only one step at a time, all because of getting your priorities straight and organizing your life.

Goals are important to overcome whatever obstacles life might throw into your path, because it lets you envision your future and give you something concrete to work with.

Too many people give up when they hit the first barrier on their way. They only see the obstacles, not the end goal. Unfortunately, most give up even before they get going. However, you don’t have to be like that!

Set Reachable Goals

How does one eat an elephant (or a field of corn, for our vegetarian friends out there…)? One mouthful at a time.

Goals help you see obstacles you didn’t even know were a possibility, let alone existed, or to realize they were just not that difficult to overcome as you first imagined. Most of them are not much more than just a molehill, let alone a mountain!

However, if they do turn out to be major challenges, all you need to do is break them down in smaller chunks – mini goals.

Setting realistic goals that are attainable, helps you to break them down into little mouthfuls that you can gobble down one at a time.

Look at a college or university degree – if you need that kind of qualification to meet your ultimate goal, like becoming a doctor or a lawyer, look at the application and qualifying process as the first mini goal, then each year of studies – one by one – and then graduation… one step at a time.

Break Down Mental Barriers by means of Positive Affirmations and Positive Self-Talk

Getting over obstacles is just that much easier once you have a positive attitude and mindset. Just like driving through traffic, affirmations and positive self-talk will help you program your mind for success.

You may find it easier to proceed with your goals if you maybe stood in front of a mirror and told yourself: “I can succeed without feeling overwhelmed.”

By implementing believable affirmations, you will create a positive dialogue with the inner self so that you eventually can tackle and beat any obstacle with confidence, purpose and pride. Just do it!

Good horse sense. Reminds me of Steven Covey’s advice! We so often get scared off doing something when the first hurdle stops us instead of going over it to the next one. Cheers!

PS Thanks so much for these little snippets of encouragement.

Great article, it got me motivated and reminded me obstacles are part of our journey so we need to find a way to deal with them.
